LETTER TO CARE PROVIDER
We are the Old Time Radio Foundation (OTRF). This non-profit provides old time radio shows to residents of nursing, veteran and hospice care residential care facilities throughout the United States. Having cited that, OTRF feels we have experience in serving this community. You are a part of this community. We know you serve those the least among us, not for a paycheck but something else. Maybe you act in honor of a loved one; you know, maybe a relative, mom or dad; an aunt or uncle, maybe a dear friend. Someone who you miss but love/loved very much.
As you might know, OTRF provides, with the aid of sponsors, old time radio shows on an MP3 player loaded with approximately 4500 episodes with an average of 27 minutes each, headsets (portable speakers for the bedridden residents), USB wall chargers.
Additionally, with the sponsors’ approval, we have tablets of all sizes from 7″ to 18.4″. The tablets will enable your residents to be able to view 1930’s, 1940’s and 1950’s full-length movies. Each resident will have the ability to select a minimal number of movies pre-loaded on the resident drive of the tablet OR request pre-loaded full- movies in excess of approximately 4500. This will vary according to the resident and the sponsor of your facility. We offer not only full-length movies of the era, but, also, TV shows of the 1950’s. These TV shows and full-length movies will, certainly, remind your residents of their earlier years, a few generations ago.
Relative to the movies, radio shows and TV shows, each could be a different genre, i.e., comedy, detective, drama, music, et cetera OR by the performer, i.e., only Clark Gable, Lena Horne, John Wayne, et cetera, movies.
Keep in mind: Because the movies, radio shows, TV shows, music are on microchips, flash drives and solid state devices (ssd’s), there is absolutely no use of the facility’s band width. The very expensive use of band width plays no part in the ability of the residents to enjoy what we offer OR OTRF’s delivery method.
The following is where you could play a critical part, using a 300+ page binder which is filled with reviews of movies, old time radio shows and book reviews. Also, by preloading approximately 4,500 episodes of a variety of shows onto MP3 players and tablets with Old Time Radio shows and movies of the era, residents of nursing, veteran and hospice residential care facilities can enjoy the “Golden Age of Radio” at any time.
Our experience has shown: the residents respond remarkably well in a group discussion referencing what their “homework” was the prior day. This might be the only time one of your patients has opened up and discussed memories, thoughts of long ago. Each episode and movie gives the date of its original airing, typically in the ‘40s and ‘50s. They will speak with fondness, possibly, of their first years of marriage, maybe their experiences in the military, a myriad of happiness.
Possibly, you could assist us in finding a sponsor for your facility. Typically, the sponsor will be a family member of a past or present resident. OTRF will have our representative do all the preliminary work; and, on the day of the ceremony, the representative will be the Master of Ceremony.
OTRF hopes you will take the material we have given staff and residents and meet success.
OTRF wishes you well. Thank you.
